As part of the “Traces of Oblivion” project, students at IGS Lüneburg brought Jewish life in the city to light. Especially at the „am Sande“, one of Lüneburg’s most significant squares, they used colorful LEGO bricks to commemorate the Jewish families who lived there and in the surrounding streets for centuries and shaped the city’s economic, cultural, and social life (including the Goldberg family, the Schiffmann family, the Gutstein family, the Schwarz family, the Rosenthal family, and the pharmacist Paul Joseph). This artistic intervention draws attention to their stories—which are barely recognizable in the cityscape today—and invites people to reflect on the fates of Lüneburg’s Jewish community.
